Why statically linking ?

Johannes Kastl's avatar

I am not a golang expert, but AFAICS that is the way golang works...

Thomas Hipp's avatar

The linker in the gc tool chain creates statically-linked binaries by default.

This is to create vagrant images right?

Would be vagrant-packer a better name then? Is there an upstream package? or did other distros package it? what name did they use?

Johannes Kastl's avatar

It is not only for vagrant boxes, although this is its most prominent use case, I guess. Can be used for container images, virtual machine images etc.

And as this is not related to vagrant, I would not go for vagrant-packer.
