Can you add a comment to "downnum", and probably move it to where %{vers} is define, as both have to be changed in lockstep?

I am not sure, but I think %fdupes should preferably create hardlinks, if the files end up in the same package.

..latestfile/298/.. looks scary, I hope they do not update the tarball once it has been released! I will use it as it does away with the %downnum. For the fdupes I guess I can use hardlinks - softlinks are the easy way out when doing an fdupes across the entire install tree.
