Hello Neal, Thanks for the submission and thank you for your patience while the Provides: changes in https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/821110 made their way to the package streams. Can you summarize here the use cases and benefit for packagers and end users? i.e. Does this Provides: addition facilitate use of these packages by RH/Fedora users, use of Fedora packages for go applications by SLE/openSUSE users, etc?
With that summary I'll create a tracking issue to coordinate the corresponding changes in other packages such as go1.x to complement this metapackage and provide documentation needed for inclusion in SLE.
Yes. The original motivation for doing this was to make it easy for the Caddy upstream project to build RPMs for SUSE distributions in COPR. I wound up forking this package to add the Provides for the build dependency project COPR.
Without this, I think it would have been harder to make the case to support SUSE distributions by the upstream project.
Also, having the familiar name install the expected software brings expectations in line with what folks from RH/Fedora and Debian/Ubuntu expect, and makes it easier for them to adapt and get working on SUSE distributions.
