@mnhauke You don't need to specify the group, the "u" implies the group. And why is a static UID necessary? This only leads to errors if the UID is already used by another account. If there are no real reasons, please use dynamic IDs.

This specific UID (74) is used since ages in the ntp package - maybe some leftover from former times when static UID allocation for system users was the norm ?
