Popt is a C library for parsing command line parameters. Popt was
heavily influenced by the getopt() and getopt_long() functions. It
improves on them by allowing more powerful argument expansion. Popt can
parse arbitrary argv[] style arrays and automatically set variables
based on command line arguments. Popt allows command line arguments to
be aliased via configuration files and includes utility functions for
parsing arbitrary strings into argv[] arrays using shell-like rules.

perl - Practical Extraction and Report Language

Perl is optimized for scanning arbitrary text files, extracting information from those text files, and printing reports based on that information. It is also good for many system management tasks. Perl is intended to be practical (easy to use, efficient, and complete) rather than beautiful (tiny, elegant, and minimal).

Some of the modules available on CPAN can be found in the "perl" series.

Socket::MsgHdr provides advanced socket messaging operations via sendmsg and recvmsg. Like their C counterparts, these functions accept few parameters, instead stuffing a lot of information into a complex structure.

This structure describes the message sent or received (buf), the peer on the other end of the socket (name), and ancillary or so-called control information (cmsghdr). This ancillary data may be used for file descriptor passing, IPv6 operations, and a host of implemenation-specific extensions.

This package contains two recovery/ forensic tools:

TestDisk checks and recovers deleted partitions. It understands all
common filesystem formats.

PhotoRec is a file data recovery software designed to recover lost
files including video, documents and archives from hard disks and CD
Rom and lost pictures (Photo Recovery) from digital camera memory.
PhotoRec ignores the filesystem and goes after the underlying data, so
it works even if your media's filesystem is severely damaged or
reformatted.

Gtkdoc is a set of Perl scripts that generate API reference
documentation in DocBook format. It can extract documentation from
source code comments in a manner similar to Java-doc. It is used to
generate the documentation for GLib, Gtk+, and GNOME.

This fast and versatile library is used all over the world for all
GNOME applications, the GIMP, and several others. Originally it was
written for the GIMP and hence has the name GIMP ToolKit. Many people
like it because it is small, efficient, and very configurable.

This library allows you to load Glade interface files in a program at
runtime. It does not require that you use Glade, but Glade is the
easiest way to create the interface files. For an idea of how to use
the library, see the documentation, especially
/usr/share/doc/packages/libglade/test-libgladee.c and the glade-xml.h
include, which is in the libglade package.

Libgnomecanvas is a graphical add-on for the GNOME User Interface
libraries.

specification for defining interfaces that can be used between
different CORBA implementations.
