File README.rancid.urpmi of Package rancid
To get rancid running after installation:
1) Edit /etc/rancid/rancid.conf, you must set LIST_OF_GROUPS
2) Add rancid-<group> and rancid-admin-<group> aliases for your MTA for
each group you set in LIST_OF_GROUPS
3) Start a shell as rancid (e.g. su - rancid -s /bin/bash) and
3.1) run rancid-cvs (maybe create .bash_profile with
PATH="$PATH:/usr/lib/rancid/bin"
or similar first to make this easier)
3.2) Create the .cloginrc file (e.g. from the sample in
/usr/share/rancid/cloginrc.sample) in the rancid user's home directory.
Ensure secure permissions (chmod 600 .cloginrc)
3.3) For eatch group, edit <group>/routers.db, adding routers as:
<ip address|hostname>:<type>:[up|down], eg:
192.168.0.1:cisco:up
3.4) Test rancid, by running 'rancid-run', or 'rancid-run <group>'
Check the logs in logs/ to see if it succeeded. If not, test
that the .cloginrc is ok, eg:
clogin -f .cloginrc <ip address|hostname>
If it succeeds, you are done, rancid run will be run as rancid every
hour (from /etc/cron.d/rancid)
Note that rancid needs to be able to run most 'show' commands, and
'write term'. TACACS+ (eg tac_plus) or similar is suggested to allow
this.
4) Add cvsweb/viewvs or similar
