@Klampfradler Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to have as a development project
Education
or some of its subprojects?I don't think so. While I personally use mmllib in educational projects, it is a generic library.
We also have pygame under the generic Python development project, which is basically the same situation.
Exactly, and I want to all these misplaced libraries move to appropriate projects.
And sorry, “Modern library for handling Music Macro Language” is not exactly a general purpose Python library, it should move somewhere closer to whatever projects works with music.
OK, I got that…
But how would you ensure that other projects follow some common standards for Python packaging? Having a devel project for reusable Python modules that ensures that they all neatly follow the same standards seems like a good thing, and from a user perspective (someone developing or deploying Python software on openSUSE) I consider it beneficial as well.
Now, if we spread libraries across all kinds of devel projects depending on some topic they are related to, won't that dramatically weaken such quality control?
For that we have
rpmlint
and we have tendency to get informed about all problems withpython-*
packages. And you of course free to ask Python maintainers for help with any Python-related issues.Well…
So, what do we do now? You accepted the package into the devel project. Shall I still submit it somehwre else now?
Could you ask somebody from https://build.opensuse.org/project/users/Education what they think about this package and whether they would have a place for it in
Education
or its subprojects?(and I am sorry, but I am leaving for the vacations tomorrow, so I will be back only in the end of the month)
