Hey, I was wondering if we could have chafa build with JPEG XL support? Right now I see it builds with normal JPEG support, but it needs libjxl at compile time to have JPEG XL support. (source: https://github.com/oupson/chafa/blob/70f83fa0ba8a320be35916c114d04c95173ff0f0/tools/chafa/Makefile.am ligne 60)

No it can not. https://github.com/hpjansson/chafa/pull/188 is only merged on master and not in the latest release.
