Would it be possible to get this into Leap as well?
sure, will try. I created https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:okurz:matrix to try this out
Based on my experiment in https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:okurz:matrix I created multiple submissions to Leap 16.0. 15.6 would be possible in theory but due to remaining missing dependencies and the limited lifetime of 15.6 plus the additional overhead for maintenance submissions I recommend against submitting matrix-synapse and dependencies to 15.6
