The dcmrelay is a set of utilities designed to relay dicom images or studies, from dicom medical compliant modalities in an hospital, to other hospitals or organizations where those images are needed, for purposes like teleradiology, complimentary diagnosis, remote archive or simple transmission of information if, for instance, a patient is being transferred to another organization, and all relevant medical images should be transferred to the PACS in the destination organization. There could be other reasons to implement a dicom relay service, like having just one system that interacts with external entities, for simplifying firewall configuration or other security reasons.
