Squid WWW Proxy Server
http://www.squid-cache.org/

Squid is a caching proxy for the Web supporting HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, and more. It reduces bandwidth and improves response times by caching and reusing frequently-requested web pages. Squid has extensive access controls and makes a great server accelerator.

Wrong package description

The Package description need to be adjusted to correct 3.3x informations

Christian Wittmer computersalat wrote almost 2 years ago

Whats wrong about this description ? Its the 3.4 Release and the description is showing the 'new features' above 3.3

Lars Müller lmuelle wrote almost 2 years ago

I would avoid any reference to a particular version number as this will be rotten soon after.

Bruno Friedmann bruno_friedmann wrote almost 2 years ago

Well for sure it need adjustment but quickly resume the changes compared to previous version. So people better knows if they want to go to this one or pick previous version still present in the repository. At least it's like this I saw it.

Lars Müller lmuelle wrote almost 2 years ago

It's superfluous. As the reference to 3.3 is. You see the version number from the main tar ball in the list of files some lines later.

I also suggest to nuke the 'First STABLE release Date: 08 Dec 2013' line. What's the added value?

@Chris: please adjust.

Christian Wittmer computersalat wrote almost 2 years ago

It always depends on the point of view. For my point of view it is not superfluous. The description is showing the 'enhancements' above the 3.3 release. For me this is important info. Whats wrong about to have this info ? Information is taken from http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/v3/3.4/RELEASENOTES.html#s2

Christian Wittmer computersalat wrote almost 2 years ago

3.3 is 'old version'. current 'stable version' is 3.4

Christian Wittmer computersalat wrote almost 2 years ago

I maintain this package for years now. And so far no description was 'rotton soon'. I can not see your problem.

Lars Müller lmuelle wrote almost 2 years ago

Please see this discussion as a suggestion to enhance the description.

It's up to you if you duplicate information which you also could link.

But in the case of the 'First STABLE release Date' line I'm missing the value. But you might have one in mind.

Is there some problem with the latest build?

If I try to start squid-3.4.4-61.1.x86_64 on openSUSE 13.1 I get "invalid machine opcode" ("ungültiger Maschinenbefehl").

This is on 3 different servers, (two with Xeon E5420 cpu / one with Core 2 Duo E7500).

( Rolled back to (fortunately saved) squid-3.4.4-57.1. )
