Isn't the BuildRequires enough ? I don't think upstream will be too happy about the sed macro in the build file (causes different result depending if you build from the spec or manually running make)

There will be no /usr/bin/python in near future on openSUSE:Factory and later it will probably disappear from other distributions as well - only python2 and python3 - so upstream has to solve it somehow.
