@dimstart: well, the same test fails in B:S/tar on i586 (and armv7l and ppc BTW), so I think we don't need to worry too much about it in oS:F:Staging:N, do we?
yes, we do - as coreutils is the reason for the test failings in B:S too
What you confirmed is: coreutils was checked in to B:S, tar failed, it was ignored and thrown over the fence for me to catch?
There is no passing here until fixed - The rings (base for stagings) are guaranteed to be building at any moment. Accepting coreutils in the current form breaks that promise.
ah, yes, somehow I got that wrong. Sorry. I'll try to reproduce here. I'm not familiar with tar's testsuite, unfortunately.

IMHO, this coreutils is broken on 32bit systems (i586, armv6, PPC)
