Why does mate-panel pull in PackageKit?
I don't know. Is it a problem?
I don't think that mate itself should require PackageKit, even with zypper in --no-recommends mate-panel one still gets PackageKit
I updated Bug#1172311 with a workaround to fix an ongoing problem with mate-panel in 15.2, 15.3, and TW.
