The Opera Web Browser

Edit Package opera

Opera is user-friendly, secure, and exceptionally fast. The browser is
small, yet full-featured and functions well on systems with limited
resources. Opera supports all common Web standards and implements them
according to the official recommendations.

Hello,

I am unable to save Opera, provided by this package, as the default web browser on my desktop. Each time I click on the 'Make (Opera) as Default Browser' it does not do anything, the button is stuck and cannot be pressed.

The only workaround for me is using opera-stable RPM provided by Opera Software.

Also a newer version is already out: 109.0.5097.80

Hallo, dear maintainer, could you please update OPERA BROWSER package (now at 126.0.5750.XX) : I have also opened a thread "https://forums.opensuse.org/t/opera-browser-not-updated/190110" into Forum without solution.

Hello all,

It looks like Opera One web browser for SUSE has been removed from OBS due to "proprietary implications".

Please use: https://rpm.opera.com/manual.html to add and install Opera repository keep it up-to-date from there . . .

Many thanks Martin for your indication: only a precisation, imho, is not advisable using "sudo zypper in opera-developer" but "sudo zypper in opera" for a STABLE package for Opera.

I followed the directions, however with "zypper in opera" I get: "Aggiornamento del servizio 'openSUSE'. Caricamento dati del repository in corso... Lettura dei pacchetti installati in corso... 'opera' è già installato. Nessun aggiornamento candidato per 'opera-121.0.5600.50-1.2.x86_64'. La versione più recente disponibile è già installata"

Obviously with "zypper if opera-developer" I get:

"Informazioni per pacchetto opera-developer:

Repository : Opera packages Nome : opera-developer Versione : 128.0.5783.0-0 Arch. : x86_64 Fornitore : Opera Software AS Dimensione installata : 343,4 MiB installato : No Stato : non installato Pacchetto sorgente : opera-developer-128.0.5783.0-0.src URL upstream : http://www.opera.com/browser/ Riepilogo : Fast and secure web browser Descrizione : Opera is a fast, secure, and user-friendly web browser. It includes a built-in ad blocker, Video pop-out, and free VPN."

sudo zypper install opera-stable is the correct package name.

opera package existed to differentiate from opera-stable.

Many, many thanks Martin for your help: I followed your indications and, finally I have the last Stable OPERA !! And most important, with this package is not necessary "workaround" for codec !!

Yes,

opera-extras package makes sure the extra software encumbered (proprietary) codecs are available:

** Core Proprietary Codecs Provided: H.264 (AVC): The most critical inclusion. This is the industry standard for high-definition video on the web (YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, etc.). AAC: The primary audio codec used in conjunction with H.264. MP4 Container Support: Full support for the .mp4 container, which relies on the two codecs above. H.265 (HEVC): In some modern builds of the package, limited support for H.265 is included, though this depends on the specific version of the underlying FFmpeg library used for the build. **
