@Vogtinator For me LGTM, your opinion?

I'm not sure. The main argument to do this is that some applications do not support GLES properly, but on some platforms only GLES is hardware accelerated. So this makes packaging easier, at the expense of lower performance on certain systems.

What about a compromise: GLES disabled for aarch64, but enabled for armv7?

The main offender from the platform perspective is Mali, which is only supported by the redistributable closed source blob, which only supports GLES (2.0 for Mali 400/450, 3.0 for T-xxx).

Mali is used on almost all of the latest generation Allwinner (A64, H5), Amlogic (S905, S912), HiSilicon, Rockchip (RK33xx), Realtek (RTD1295) SoCs, i.e. all these SoCs have only GLES support.

So, if we want to support these SoCs (all aarch64), even with the proprietary Mali blob, we should keep GLES and fix the problem on the application level.
