Some sort of useful software (mainly FLOSS)
not already present in main repositories.

AtomicParsley is a lightweight command line
program for reading, parsing and setting metadata
into MPEG-4 files supporting these styles of
metadata:

* iTunes-style metadata into .mp4, .m4a,
.m4p, .m4v, .m4b files
* 3gp-style assets (3GPP TS 26.444 version
6.4.0 Release 6 specification conforming)
in 3GPP, 3GPP2, MobileMP4 and derivatives
* ISO copyright notices at movie and track
level for MPEG-4 and derivative files
* uuid private user extension text and file
embedding for MPEG-4 and derivative files

The MPEG-4 container is based on Apple's Quicktime
.mov container (just more sane) and there are a
number of similarites - as well as differences.

Each MPEG-4 file lists a "major file brand" that
broadly says which specification the file adheres
to. For example, an iTunes audio file typically
lists 'M4A ' as its major file brand, while a
3GPP2 .3g2 file has something like '3g2a'. It is
based on this major file brand that AtomicParsley
allows a style of metadata to be set.

Since there is nothing in the 3GPP2 specification
regarding iTunes-style metadata, its use is
prevented on such files. Similarly, a 3gp
'location' asset is not available for an iTMS
video file.

Supervise monitors a service. It starts the service and restarts the
service if it dies. The companion svc program stops, pauses, or
restarts the service on sysadmin request. The svstat program prints
a one-line status report.

Multilog saves error messages to one or more logs. It optionally
timestamps each line and, for each log, includes or excludes lines
matching specified patterns. It automatically rotates logs to limit
the amount of disk space used. If the disk fills up, it pauses and
tries again, without losing any data.

Dev Todo is small command line application for
maintaining lists of tasks. It stores tasks
hierarchically, with each task given one of five
priority levels.

Data is stored as XML, so various XSLT templates
can be executed on the XML to convert it into
different formats (eg. HTML).

TODOs per directory:
Data is stored in a file named .todo in the
current directory. Depending on the setting of
backup in your configuration file, there may also
be files named .todo.1, .todo.2, etc.

Gmail Filesystem provides a mountable Linux
filesystem which uses your Gmail account as its
storage medium.

gmailfs is a Python application and uses the FUSE
userland filesystem infrastructure to help
provide the filesystem, and libgmail to
communicate with Gmail.

GmailFS supports most file operations such as
read, write, open, close, stat, symlink, link,
unlink, truncate and rename. This means that you
can use all your favourite unix command line
tools to operate on files stored on Gmail
(e.g. cp, ls, mv, rm, ln, grep, ...)

Colourizers, colormakes and similar programs are
useful for making files or outputs of different
programs more readable by inserting ansi colour
control codes into them.

This program could eventually provide the
functions of many others.

Two programs are provided: grc and grcat. The
main is grcat, which acts as a filter, i.e. taking
standard input, colourising it and writing to
standard output.

There are two types of typing exercises: drills and speed tests,
including "practice only" routines.

The program reads lessons written in an easy-to-learn scripting
language. It is distributed with several complete and good lessons.
You can use them, modify them or create new ones.

hsetroot is a tool which allows you to compose
wallpapers ("root pixmaps") for X. It has a lot

current theme. It is compatible with semi
translucent applications like aterm and xchat.
