As per https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Package_naming_guidelines#Multiple_packages_for_the_same_software , the package should have just been called getmail (and getmail5 be introduced, if that old version is still needed).

Well, the package is called getmail6 now (because it's a fork). Consequently, this package is known as getmail6 to the world (eg. Debian, Ubuntu). While I generally follow your advice and such policies, I think, that we should explicitly keep the original name here as well.

Are you still convinced, Jan, that a rename dance is in order?

Oh I completely missed that it's called like that by upstream. No worries then.
